In December 2017 we had a very moving holiday – out of 19 nights away, 12 of them we spent sleeping, or trying to sleep, while travelling.
Four nights on a cruise ship crossing the Great Australian Bight from Adelaide to Perth, then after two nights in Perth we spent five nights cruising around the South-western corner of Western Australia, visiting Esperance and Albany. After another two stationary nights in Perth, we caught the Indian Pacific train and had 3 nights travelling from Perth to Sydney. After one night in Sydney, we flew home.
This first photographic ‘instalment’ (gallery) covers our night in Melbourne, the Overland rail journey to Adelaide, and our day in Adelaide. Link
While in Adelaide friends took us to the Cleland Wildlife Park in the Adelaide hills. Some highlights there were the walk-through aviaries and a lake with many water birds. Both great for the photographer!
This Wildlife Park is well worth a visit if you are in Adelaide.
From Adelaide, it was all aboard for our first ever sea cruise – stay tuned for Part Two.

Till then, have fun, get the camera out, and enjoy your own journey.
